Welcome to our website. We are Martock and District Woodturners, a small friendly club in the heart of Somerset.
Browse our site to find out more about us or look through our gallery to see our members work. We are keen to pass on our love of wood turning and have members of all abilities. The club has members who range from hobby turners to professional turners but all sharing an enjoyment of the craft.
Martock and District Woodturners was established in 1993 and is based at Yandles & Sons in Martock.
There is a monthly club night. This is usually a woodturning demonstration but occasionally interspersed with other related talks or demonstrations such as French Polishing and Marquetry. This is held at Ash Recreational Pavillion on a Tuesday evening at 7pm.
We use a Record Power/Nova DVR-XP Lathe (No’ 2 Morse Taper, 1 ¼” x 8TPI Thread) for our demonstrations and we have an Axminster Precision Chuck & accessories, plus the usual drive/tail centres & a small faceplate available for demonstrators.
Our demonstrations are supported by portable video camera linked to a 42” flat screen TV to enable our members to see the action clearly.
Also on Saturdays, about once a month there is a Hands On session in Yandles teaching room. We have the use of four Record lathes and have activites for beginners followed by a chance to share more advanced techniques.
Once or twice a year we have an all day demo with a visiting professional turner. These are held at Ash Pavillion. Food may be provided at an extra charge.
The club is supported by Yandles & Sons of Martock and we always have a stand at their Spring and Autumn Shows. Come along and chat to us. You will also see our members helping with the parking.
The club has a library of Woodturning Videos and DVDs for members use.
